There are many events that will appeal to you and your family this spring and summer!
Don’t miss the Aurora Art Show and Sale presented in partnership with the Society of York Region Artists on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Aurora Town Hall. Admission is free. There will be over 300 pieces of artwork featured with many beautiful pieces to purchase.
Register today to be part of Team Aurora in the 2016 Run or Walk for Southlake Regional Health Centre on Sunday, May 1.
The Run or Walk for Southlake is the evolution of the Bob Hartwell Challenge that began in 2002 to pay tribute to Bob Hartwell, a former Aurora Councillor, local businessman and avid runner.
This event honours his legacy by raising funds for our local hospital so that we can all continue to have access to the quality healthcare that we deserve, close to home.
To register for Team Aurora, please visit www.southlakefoundation.ca/participate/run-or-walk.
Sign up to participate in Neighbourhood Network’s Tree Planting program on Saturday, April 30 at Vines Place. Working with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the partnered municipalities, volunteers register to plant and re-establish native tree species and enhance the environment.
For more information or to register, please visit www.neighbourhoodnetwork.org.
Join the Big Bike challenge and participate with the Aurora Has Heart Team on Saturday, May 7! Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women. Our goal is to ride in the Heart & Stroke Big Bike to help create more survivors and develop life-saving treatments.
To join, please visit www.heartandstroke.on.ca.
I would like to thank the residents who attended the Yonge Street Parking Plan Public Open House last week. We appreciate your feedback and input on the initial concepts of the program. Also, thank you to the participants of Aurora’s Annual Clean-up Day this weekend. Your efforts to keep our community litter-free are commendable. Let’s continue working together to keep Aurora beautiful!
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to a new member of Aurora’s business community – Panera Bread! This new business is located at 15610 Bayview Ave. If you’re in the area, check out their delicious creations.
Congratulations and best wishes to Patricia Damphouse, Manager of Collection Services at the Aurora Public Library, who is retiring after 28 years of service. Thank you for your dedicated service to the Library and our community.
Congratulations to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Elementary School on celebrating its 60th Anniversary on Sunday, May 1. I will also be proclaiming May 1, 2016 as Our Lady of Grace Catholic Elementary School Day.
This past weekend, I was honoured to attend the Queen’s York Rangers Change of Command, and the St. Andrew’s College annual Church Parade. I was pleased to see that this parade was well-attended with support from our local community. The event recognizes the cadet unit and their many achievements. It also commemorates the Town first granting the Freedom of the Town to the St. Andrew’s College Highland Cadet Corps.
Stay connected to the Town. Visit the Town’s website, read the local Notice Board, subscribe to our social media feeds and sign-up for our monthly e-newsletter, Aurora Matters.
Stay tuned to In Good Company for more information about Aurora.

By Mayor Geoff Dawe Aurora is bustling with activity.
