Facing off in division one, the top division of five in the tournament, York North made quick work of Stoney Creek, East York, and Welland in round-robin play to advance to Sunday’s final against Transway Basketball: the number-one ranked team in the province.

York North took the championship by a final score of 31 – 27.

The win capped off a highly successful year for the U11s. They completed an undefeated season in tournament play in February, when the team won their fourth championship of the season in Guelph.

In the U10 category, the York North-Faria squad competed at the OBA’s Division 3 level. Wins against both IEM Newmarket and Durham City gave York North a 2 – 1 record in round robin, enough to earn them a berth in the bronze medal game.

A hard-fought effort left them one point shy of a medal, in a 21 – 20 loss to a team from Sudbury.

York North-Sharp competed in Division 6 at the U12 level, held across Newmarket, Markham, and Georgina. They also took a 2 – 1 record to the bronze medal matchup, defeating both Durham City and the Belleville Spirits along the way, and came out victorious. A third-place finish was secured by a 48 – 32 win over Goulbourn Basketball.

The Ontario Cup continues through to the end of May, with the U10, U11, and U12 boys taking to the hardcourt this weekend in London, Niagara, and Milton, respectively.

<a class="synved-social-button synved-social-button-share synved-social-size-24 synved-social-resolution-single
