{"id":13043,"date":"2016-01-06T13:56:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T18:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=13043"},"modified":"2016-01-13T14:46:33","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T19:46:33","slug":"aurora-heights-homes-evacuated-following-gas-leak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/aurora-heights-homes-evacuated-following-gas-leak\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurora Heights homes evacuated following gas leak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Brock Weir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The residents of five homes near Aurora Heights Drive and Delayne Drive received an early wake-up call on Monday morning after a neighbour sounded the alarm of a natural gas leak.<\/p>\n<p>Central York Fire Services received a 9-1-1 call from a neighbour reporting the smell of natural gas on Laurwood Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe attended with three trucks,\u201d said Robert Comeau of the CYFS. \u201cOne of the pressure fittings was allowing gas to escape and, as a precaution, we evacuated five homes. Enbridge Gas attended shortly after we arrived, quickly stopped the gas, we cleared, and the homeowners were allowed to re-enter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was just an equipment failure and no person was involved in the failure. Often people are digging and driving a piece of equipment near the meter and they knock something off, but that wasn\u2019t the case here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Enbridge confirmed that five homes in the area were evacuated, but only one home on Laurwood Court was affected by the leak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [compression fitting] has gone for analysis to find out what was wrong with it, but it doesn\u2019t appear anything was wrong with it prior so it was likely as a result of the cold weather,\u201d said Enbridge.<\/p>\n<a class=\"synved-social-button synved-social-button-share synved-social-size-24
