St. Andrew\u2019s College has released plans for a scholarship that could provide immense support for prospective day students.<\/p>\n

It was announced to welcoming ears at last Tuesday\u2019s open house that the college\u2019s new scholarship is to be named after D. Bruce MacDonald, SAC\u2019s longest-serving headmaster from 1900-1935. He was instrumental in bringing the college to the town of Aurora in 1926.<\/p>\n

The D. Bruce MacDonald scholarship will be open to prospective students between Grades 5 \u2013 9 from York Region, with one merit-based scholarship handed out per grade. The numbers are staggering \u2013 awards are set at $15,000 for Grades 5 and 6 and $20,000 for Grades 7, 8, and 9. It will be renewable each year the student is at the college, provided they continue to excel.<\/p>\n

St. Andrews\u2019s College\u2019s Admission Director Michael Roy anticipates \u2018a great deal of competition\u2019 for these scholarships.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis scholarship is important to St. Andrew\u2019s as it demonstrates our commitment in providing young men within our community the opportunity to experience SAC,\u201d said Roy.<\/p>\n

He brought up that the school is entering its 90th year in the Town of Aurora, and says this is one of a number of ways the college can give back to the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past 15 years, SAC has invested over $65M in facilities and programs. The school has a phenomenal 110-acre campus to help deliver one of the top academic experiences in North American independent school education.\u201d<\/p>\n

The merit-based scholarship will be based on a boy\u2019s ability to demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, co-curriculars (athletics and\/or arts) and community involvement. There is an application process, as well as an essay portion on why they would make a good recipient for the scholarship.<\/p>\n

Applications must be submitted online on the school\u2019s website, and award recipients will be notified no later than the beginning of next April.
