All those World Cup Team Canada Watch Parties have been so much fun.

However, there was no joy in Aurora on Saturday afternoon as Team Canada's quest for a World Cup in men's soccer ended in Houston not with a bang, but with a whimper.

A 3-0 loss to powerhouse Morocco in the Round of 16 marked Team Canada's deepest progress in the FIFA event and the valiant squad's performance over five games put men's soccer on the map.

The Red and White finished the tourney 2-2-1—by far its best finish compared to prior forays into the World Cup in 1986 and 2022 when the national team produced records “unblemished by victory” – 0-3 and 0-3.

With a young core and a nervy coach in tow for the next World Cup, there's much to look forward to for even the most casual of soccer fans.

Perhaps the best local story that emerged from the communal experience was watching hundreds of soccer fans in Aurora take great pride in the performance of Alistair Johnston who figured prominently in Team Canada's success on the pitch as the nomadic national squad meandered through its five matches in Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Houston.
