Speeds could slow on Leslie StreetSpeed limits on Leslie Street could be reduced from between 70 km/h and 80km/h to 60 km/hour this week. York Regional Council is set to approve the new limit Thursday as part of a review of speeds on Regional roads. According to a report before Regional Councillors, residents living on Leslie between Wellington Street East in the south to just north of Mulock Drive in Newmarket requested speeds be set at 50km/h ahead of future substantial residential development on the west side of the stretch as well as road widening, which will begin next year. Regional traffic experts estimate the possible speed deduction will equate to a time travel increase of about 61 seconds per car. |
