Simple explanation could address LAV furoreI have been reading these letters regarding the installation of the LAV on the grounds of the Cenotaph in Aurora. We live in the GREATEST Country in the world. We have the freedom to state our opinion, the freedom to vote, the freedom to protest, the freedom to practice whatever religion we wish, the freedom to revoke our pledges to heads of state after we become a Canadian. All because our men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, through the century, have paid the ultimate price. I am amazed that a Light Armoured Vehicle, that probably doesn't even have to have the 25 mm cannon on it, would draw such ire from civilians. But, this is an opinion you are entitled to. So many have argued that this is a place of peace. They are correct, but it was obtained by great sacrifice. All this vehicle does is help put into perspective how our men and women did that. It's an inanimate object that with a simple explanation from an educated adult, or a commemorative plaque, can show the children of the future what this vehicle did for our troops. I really wish we had this much discussion about the sanctity of this holy land when the veterinary clinic wanted access to the property from the rear of their facility.
