Local practitioners bring Aurora a focused twist to sports medicine![]() By Jake Courtepatte Athletes in the Aurora and Newmarket area will now have access to medical professionals focused solely on the athlete's recovery and health, according to new Clinic Director and physiotherapist Giacomo Fabrizio. Fabrizio, along with fellow physiotherapist Michael Pameli and orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Patrick Gamble, co-own Aurora Sports Medicine Professionals (ASMP), what they believe to be the first “true sports medicine clinic in Aurora”. Dr. Stephen Wong Shue, who works out of the clinic, earned his Diploma in Sports Medicine in 1996. “A lot of people can claim to be a sports medicine doctor,” said Fabrizio. “But that's what we feel sets us apart – he's truly been through the process.” The staff has previous local connections, as Fabrizio is also the co-owner of Nobleton Physiotherapy. Meanwhile, Dr. Gamble also holds a full-time orthopaedic position at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. “Not only does Dr. Gamble already treat a lot of local athletes, he also has a particular interest in sports medicine. We have the staff that has the right designations.” Located off Bayview Avenue on Earl Stewart Drive in Aurora, ASMP boasts a 2000 sq. ft. modern facility, including six private treatment rooms and a dedicated rehab area with exercise aids. The clinic held an open-house last Thursday, inviting members of the community to tour the building and its amenities. The staff is quite multi-disciplinary, ranging from sports medicine physicians, to orthopaedic surgeons, to neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, and massage therapists. “Again, what sets us apart is we have the entire group of rehab disciplines,” said Fabrizio. “We cover the psychological, physical, emotional…the athletes have all the bases covered in-house.” With Nobleton Physio open for the past nine years, Fabrizio and Pameli saw the expansion to Aurora as the “next step”, reconnecting with Dr. Gamble after they all had graduated from McMaster University in 1995 and 1996. “This has been on the radar for a while, but we wanted it to be perfect, to be sound, and to be legitimate. We were a mainstay in the community there; we want to be a mainstay here.” Opening their doors at the beginning of October, Fabrizio says the company has been “well received by the community”. Having attended the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame dinner last week, he was pleased to hear the buzz around his new business. “Without much marketing, it's been great. Dr. Gamble is already well-known throughout the community, and we've all been really well received. It's nice to start with your feet kind of running already.” To request an appointment, or just to find out more about the company, check out www.aurorasportsmed.ca.
