iRIDE+ program expands CHATS’ transportation to more people in need

After 35 years of serving local seniors, Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS) has launched an enhanced transportation program for their clients funded by the Central Local Health Integration Network (C-LHIN).

Launched on Canada Day in conjunction with Circle of Care, a similar organization serving North York, the service will provide professionally trained drivers and dedicated volunteers – and a variety of vehicles to accommodate all needs – for seniors 55 and over challenged by mobility, persons with mental health challenges, and adults with disabilities ineligible for Wheel-Trans.

Dubbed iRIDE(Plus), the service is available for ride pickups Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with weekend service available depending on demand and advance notice.

“In the last year, CHATS paid and volunteer drivers collectively drove over one million kilometers,” said Christina Bisanz, CEO of CHATS. “Put another way, this would cover 264 trips across Canada. iRIDE+ builds on our experience and reputation, while expanding eligibility to more people with an even simpler way to arrange service. Our aim is to deliver safe, affordable and accessible transportation services to meet clients' individual needs.
