Dead poets’ society is alive and wellWhat some may consider poetry reading as being rather a dead society, this is not the case of this poetic society, still very much alive and well in Aurora. It is my pleasure to tell you why. If you haven't gotten around to visiting the quaint tea shop called Bonsai Hill located at the four corners of Yonge and Wellington Street here in Aurora then put it down on your to-do list. Owner William Wang shares his expertise in creating for you various world teas, coffees and conversations. During his busy schedule, he has opened his doors once a month for the last two years on every third Tuesday for “An Evening of Poetry, Music and Storytelling.” Gathering at this location have been fascinating, unique and diverse artists, poets, writers, and musicians along with family and guests. Out of town guests have been visiting from Brampton, Georgina, King City, Markham, Newmarket, Pefferlaw, Richmond Hill, Stouffville, and Toronto. Our poets and writers recite from published works as well as their unpublished manuscripts to the chosen theme of romance, humour, and life's surprises of emotions and various heartfelt topics. Many of our poets and musicians have since been invited to be a part of Whistle Radio 102.7 Asylum for the Soul program hosted by Ken Cowle featuring Canadian independent writers and musicians. In Pefferlaw, the Belvedere Restaurant held special event evenings of poetry and music for Halloween and Valentines Day featuring the Bonsai Hill Poets. Some of these writers will be releasing their books later this year, Michael Rowbottom “Dream Catcher” and, myself, “Mental Images” and “The Adventures Of Miss Wally Wall”. If you're visiting Bonsai Hill for the first time and would like to read your poetry or perform all are welcome. The Bonsai Hill Tea Shop on these evenings is always filled with laughter, sharing of ideas as well as loosing oneself the in indulgence of specialty teas and coffees. Happy Second Anniversary to all the Bonsai Hill poets, writers and musicians. Thank you to William Wang and family for this venue. Join us for an evening of Poetry at Bonsai Hill the “Eccentric Inspirations Of The Creative Individual” on Tuesday June 18, at 7.00 p.m. Deborah Campo Aurora |
