Brown responds to Liberal tax criticism(Re: The “truth” about Tory “tax tales”, January 16, 2014) Our Conservative Government's commitment to a low-tax plan is leaving more money in the pockets of Canadians. Our Government has reduced taxes over 160 times. Our strong action has reduced the federal tax burden to its lowest point in 50 years. The reduction of the GST to 5 per cent alone puts nearly $1,000 back in the pockets of the average Canadian family annually. With measures like the reduction of the personal income tax rate to 15 per cent, the introduction of the Tax-Free Savings Account and the introduction of pension income splitting, Canadians of all walks of life are benefitting. In contrast, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau appointed Member of Parliament Chrystia Freeland as his economic advisor, a carbon tax supporter who said “amen to raising taxes.” The Liberals have voted against all our tax cuts. Only our Conservative Government can be counted on to deliver a low-tax plan in the interests of all Canadians.
