Brown confirmed as Newmarket-Aurora's Conservative nomineeBy Brock Weir Incumbent Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown was acclaimed as the Conservative Party's nominee in the next Federal Election last week. Ms. Brown was officially acclaimed at a meeting of the Newmarket-Aurora Conservative Association on Saturday. “In am honoured to be nominate as the Conservative candidate for Newmarket-Aurora in the next Federal election,” said Ms. Brown in a statement. “I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in this incredible journey and I look forward to continuing to work hard on behalf of the Newmarket-Aurora taxpayers.” The next federal election, expected next year, will see Aurora divided into two Federal ridings. Residents north of Wellington Street will vote in a reconfigured Newmarket-Aurora, while residents south of Wellington will vote in the newly-created riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill. Lawyer Kyle Peterson has put his name forward as Liberal candidate for Newmarket Aurora. Earlier this year, Costas Menegakis was confirmed as the Conservative nominee for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, while Jason Cherniak has put his name forward as the Liberal candidate. Although both Liberal candidates have been active in the community, the Party has yet to firm up formal nomination dates. |
