Bowling alley to close after 50 years of strikesBy Brock Weir Aurora's only bowling alley, Gateway Café and Lanes, will close its doors for the last time on Saturday, June 20. Opened over 50 years ago as Aurora Bowl, the current owners say customer demand "has fallen short of what is needed to continue to run the business and keep the lights on. Our desire was to be Aurora's hotspot for bowling and family fun, and over the past decade we've been honoured to host numerous fun events…and celebrations with respected charities such as Big Brothers and Teen Challenge. "Friendships were established, business partnerships were forged, and we leave feeling enriched and very grateful for having had the opportunity to meet and know many of you, our fellow citizens.” Gateway will host free bowling between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on June 20 as a thank you to the community." |
