The U-13 boys team dominated the competition, winning 11 – 1 against a team from Barrie to open the tournament. In the meantime, their U-16 counterparts were off to a perfect start after defeating their opponents 4 – 0 and 1 – 0 in round robin play. Both teams eventually took their respective championships. On the girls side, the U-13 team went to the semifinals after defeating both Milton and North Bay in their division. The U-17 division really showed off Aurora's soccer talent, with two Aurora teams facing each other in the final to guarantee a home victory. Started in 2002, the Aurora CanAm Challenge has developed into a mid-sized, very competitive tournament that has now reached 120 teams. It has been an exciting month for the Aurora Youth Soccer Club, with eleven coaches and executives earning volunteer service awards at May's Community Recognition Awards. The club is also looking for the public's help in creating a fresh new motto, with a contest running until the end of June and four tickets to a Toronto FC game on the line. “We're looking for something that we can call our own,” said Kim Warner, Social Media and Events Coordinator at AYSC, “to unify our goals for the club.” In the past, the organization played under the motto of “A better place to learn”; but now executives are looking for a more “user-friendly” catchphrase by enlisting the public's help. “In terms of branding, we're looking for something that our members can relate to,” said Warner. The contest closes on Monday, June 22, with the board of directors picking a winner out of the submissions.
