Aurora Council approves 3.75% tax hike

By Brock Weir

Aurora homeowners can expect to pay just over $109 more in property taxes for 2014, following Tuesday night's Council meeting.

Councillors formally signed off on a 3.75 per cent property tax hike at Tuesday's Council meeting, following months of debate.

Combined with a tax hike from the Regional level, as well as school taxes, it will result in an overall hit of 1.99 per cent.

For the average Aurora home marked with $550,000 in assessment value, this will result in an increase of $109.44. Commercial properties are expected to face a 1.13 per cent combined tax increase this year as well.

For a commercial property also assessed at $550,000, this translates into an increase of $122.51 on your tax bill.

Full coverage of Council's final debate on the 2014 tax increase will be found in the March 27 edition of The Auroran.
