The Aurora Tigers clawed their way back into the win column with a convincing 6-3 win over the Brantford 99ers at the Gretzky Centre in Brantford on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals scored by Jace Lavallee, Connor Russo, and Wesley Royston. The 99ers narrowed the margin to 2 before the end of the first period, but Ryan Evenhuis restored the Tigers' three-goal lead with the only goal of the second period to make it 4-1 after forty minutes.
99ers Jackson Drysdale scored short-handed to draw Brantford closer four minutes into the final frame, but Stefan Forgione put the Tigers up 5-2 half way through the period. After Jonah Cochrane scored to narrow the 99ers' deficit to 5-3, the Tigers avoided a repeat of Saturday's collapse versus Pickering when Aurora Captain Lucas Stanojevic put the game away at 17:37 of the third period.
Game Notes:
Peter Lopes and Jonah Ziskinder each recorded two assists in the Tigers' six-goal effort versus the 99ers on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon's win improved the Tigers' record to 16-19-2-4.
The Tigers next game is at home at the ACC on Friday, January 27 at 7:30 PM versus Stouffville.
