Storm Typhoon U15 Girls capture third straight Provincial title

By Jake Courtepatte

Storm volleyball continued its long and prominent success in indoor volleyball by adding another trophy to the case over the weekend.

While their age bracket may change each year, their results haven't, as the U15 Storm Typhoon girls team captured a provincial three-peat in the Ontario Championships in Waterloo.

The girls have dominated in recent years, winning the U13 in 2013 and the U14 in 2014.

β€œIt's a pretty amazing accomplishment,” said Linda Therkildsen, head coach of the team.

Playing out of the Division 1 bracket, the Storm Typhoon lost only two sets on route to five match wins over the Halton Hurricanes, Markham Wasps, Waterdown Dynamo Corinthians, Scarborough Tektonics and Durham Attack. Their first and only match loss in round-robin play was at the hands of the South County Teal, losing in three hard-fought sets.

They once again faced the Tektonics in the semifinals, dominating the second set 25 – 12 in a straight-sets victory. A third and deciding set was needed after drawing the first two in the championship against the Attack, where the Storm took a 15 – 9 victory.

Registration will soon be opening for Storm Volleyball's beach season. More information can be found at www.stormvolleyball.ca.
