Solar opportunities make greener citizens

(Re: Machell's Corners, July 23, 2015)

I wanted to ring in on the comic in the July 23 edition of The Auroran, the one about the solar energy panels and the FIT program that the town is entertaining. It was good as it was informative and piqued your interest to want to know more.
I think it would be great to have an article about what the FIT program is all about and how it benefits the residents, so that we are all aware of what it is.
I just put in solar panels on my roof this summer (going live in days) as part of my acceptance into the MicroFIT program - same program as the FIT program but for residential systems generating less power.
I will have a 20 year contract with the government, to produce solar power which will be fed into the grid, just as the young man in the comic proposes to do with his head mounted solar panel, but it's fed directly into PowerStreams grid, no batteries required.
I will generate revenue based on a contracted rate which has been approved at the provincial level - for 20 years! My break-even on the solar panels is about 5 years, so a great ROI and I am becoming a greener citizen as a result.
