Seniors' Centre to re-open Monday

After being shuttered for close to six months, the Aurora Seniors' Centre will once again re-open its doors Monday.

On September 28, the Aurora Seniors' Centre on John West Way will re-open in a limited capacity with new safety protocols for a variety of programming, from fitness programs to art classes.

Pre-registration will be required for all Seniors' Centre programs and activities through the Town of Aurora's ePlay portal at aurora.ca/eplay or by calling 905-727-3123 x3610.

Seniors' Centre members can also drop off registration forms at the facility's entrance.

Drop-in programs will not be available until further notice.

“Town Staff have worked closely with the Aurora Seniors' Association, the Older Adults Centre's Association of Ontario and York Region Public Health to develop procedures and guidelines in accordance with Provincial and Regional health department regulations,” said Mayor Tom Mrakas in a statement. “This pandemic has impacted everyone, especially our seniors in the community who may be experiencing social isolation. Staff have taken every precaution to ensure the Aurora Seniors' Centre is a safe place to return to and to provide programs and activities geared towards getting them back to being active and social once again.”

Seniors' Centre members are encouraged to book a facility tour ahead of Monday's opening to view the facility and get a handle on new safety protocols set to be implemented. Families of members are also welcome to attend. Each tour will be limited to four participants and can be booked through Friday, September 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by calling 905-727-3123 x3610.

Registration for Fall Older Adult Programs will begin Monday for Aurora residents, while non-residents will have to wait until Thursday, October 1 to get involved.
