A key component of Sport Aurora’s “Activate Aurora” campaign to get Aurora moving was kicked off with local students and teachers on Wednesday.
Regency Acres Public School was the first to initiate the campaign’s walk-to-school program, a safe walk system aimed at getting young children moving before a sedentary school day.
Together with York Region District School Board Vice Chair – and Aurora-King Trustee – Peter Adams-Luchowski, Mayor Geoff Dawe, Chair of the Activate Aurora Program Ron Weese and Aurora Sports Hall of Famer Mark Heese, the students were greeted by music and bells when they arrived to school.
“The point is to get everyone in the mood to get moving and active,” said Sport Aurora Program Manager Laurie Mueller.
After opening announcements, the student population took a walk around the outside of the school before starting their day.
