Multicultural Festival should be seen in the positive

(Re: “Aurorans demand apology”, September 15)

The writer of the open letter to Mayor and Council, Anthony Pullano, is telling us that there was a breakdown in communication when the Multicultural Festival was organized.
He feels that the Italian community and some other cultural groups, in Aurora, were omitted from the celebration; a huge error had been made and this omission seemed like a big insult to the proud Italian community.
Pullano mentions that the 600,000 Italian people, living in Canada, have made enormous contributions to our society and to the Auroran community.
Unfortunately, the population of about 2,500 Italians in Town missed out on registering for the event, by the deadline August 23. Surely, no negative message was intended to this group, by the Councillors of the Town, or by other people organizing the event.
The main focus on holding the event should be a positive viewpoint.
For example, this was the first Multicultural Festival held by the Town of Aurora to celebrate the different cultural groups living in town. The demographic composition of the area has changed dramatically over the past decade.
Our population is more diverse today and we need to acknowledge the contributions of the new citizens living in the area. The different foods, music and dancing illustrated the talents of the multicultural groups.
It was a day of enjoyable activities where people could mix and mingle.
Congratulations to the organizers for setting a good standard for next year's event to pass.
So, next year, many more cultural groups can be aware of the event and apply to be involved next year.
