MP's REPORT: A Happening Month

By Kyle Peterson, MP
Newmarket-Aurora

It's hard to believe, but another summer has come to an end. Like many of you, this week means a return to school for our boys, as Kolton starts Grade 2 and Kash starts SK.
This time of year is always bittersweet, but it does provide a good opportunity to look back at a great summer, while also looking forward to a busy fall.
It has been a busy summer for me, but I am always excited to spend time here, away from Ottawa, and attending so many great events and being able to tour several local businesses.
I was quite impressed when I toured Safehaven Community Project in Aurora, a Canada Summer Jobs grant recipient and saw the great work being done there by all the staff. I was honoured to meet all the clients, and was happy to have the chance to spend some time with them.
I was particular pleased to meet Eisha Baghel, a student employed by Canada Summer Jobs, one of 263 created for students in Newmarket-Aurora this summer. It is always rewarding when I get to see firsthand the impacts of our government's local investments.
I also had the privilege of visiting two local businesses - Desjardins Insurance and Treasure Mills. I am always impressed with the diversity of businesses in our community, and I wish these organizations continued success.
This summer also saw the launch of the Canada Child Benefit.
I am proud that the tax-free, Canada Child Benefit is providing up to $533 a month per child, and is helping with the high costs of raising children and making a real difference in the lives of many families in our community. Receiving this benefit is helping many parents buy kids school supplies and sign them up for fall activities.
If you have any questions about the CCB, please contact our office.
Summer has also been a good chance to reach out, and that outreach will continue this month. On Thursday, September 15, I am hosting a town hall meeting on electoral reform, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Aurora Town Hall located at 100 John West Way, Aurora.
If you would like to attend, please contact the Constituency Office at 905-953-7515 to provide your RSVP.
As a reminder, you can reach out to my office and my staff at any time. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you need any information or help.
We are located at 16600 Bayview Avenue, Suite 202. You can reach us at 905-953-7515 or by email at Kyle.Peterson@parl.gc.ca.
