Minor PeeWee Jays finish fourth at home tournament

By Jake Courtepatte

The Minor PeeWee Aurora Jays were perfect into the semifinals of their annually hosted tournament at Lambert Willson Park over the weekend, eventually earning fourth-place out of fourteen teams.

Outscoring their opponents by an astonishing margin of 43 – 10 in three round-robin games, the Jays topped Toronto, Scarborough, and Richmond Hill on a busy Saturday to earn a quarterfinal matchup with the Western Ontario Bulls on Saturday evening.

Aurora moved on with a 12 – 0 shutout victory, facing the Newmarket Hawks in the semifinals on Sunday.

Newmarket won the clash of unbeaten teams 6 – 2, sending the Jays to the consolation finals. There, they met a tough Barrie squad and fell 14 – 3.
The Hawks, meanwhile, won the championship later that afternoon with an 11 – 2 thumping of North Toronto.

The tournament was the final of six on the year to be hosted by the Aurora-King Baseball Association.
