"Creepy" Aurora spirit walk marks fifth anniversary in October

By Brock Weir

Halloween is coming, so there's no better time to get spooky!

The Aurora Spirit Walk heads into its fifth year next Friday, October 3, leaving from Town Park at 8 p.m. for a walking tour of some of Aurora's creepiest, spookiest, and most supernatural historic sites. Lead by local historian David Heard, the walks, which take place every Friday and Saturday night in October, benefit Kerry's Place Autism Services.

“The idea came forward in honour of someone I was supporting at Kerry's Place and, unfortunately, he left us,” says Mr. Heard. “It was an incredible story of hope to watch this gentleman grow from someone who was very low-functioning to someone who was able to travel around and walk around independently in a year and a half. When he passed away, I was devastated by his loss because he taught me a lot about hope and moving forward.”

In asking himself how to honour the “spirit” he left behind, Mr. Heard developed the “Spirit Walk” and it has gone from strength to strength.

“Now, people walk away experiencing something special. Each year something new happens after I complete each Spirit Walk and I am able to share those new stories with the public each year.”

Tickets are $15.
