Newmarket Redbirds named Provincial Champs
By Lori MacDonald
This great group of 8 and 9 year olds won the Ontario Championship for the Novice B Division of Field Lacrosse in the 2013 spring season.
The Newmarket Redbirds are comprised of 18 young athletes from Aurora, Newmarket, Mount Albert, Uxbridge, Queensville and Holland Landing who worked with tremendous heart and determination.
After competing all season long in order to qualify to compete at Provincials, the Redbirds defeated opponents from St. Catherines (3-2), Caledon (8-1), and Innisfil (8-3) to reach the final Championship game against the Peterborough Lakers on Provincials Tournament Weekend.
On May 19, 2013, the Newmarket Redbirds players accomplished an amazing 6-5 victory to be awarded the 2013 Field Lacrosse Novice B Championships!
Under the skilled guidance and coaching of Head Coach Patrick Sprigg and Assistant Coach Dustin Eng, the Redbirds athletes were able to excel with the talents that had been harnessed and developed in each player.
Their triumph, however, came with effort and determination as the boys played as a team. Coach Pat and Coach Dustin brought these talented athletes together to foster a love of the game of lacrosse and to ready them for this opportunity.
Once it presented itself, the boys were ready to win!
Congratulations Coaches and Players!
