Aurora stepped up for “Bikes for Kids”

Aurora stepped up for “Bikes for Kids”

Thanks Aurora, for the amazing response to this year's collection of bikes!

Eighty five “previously loved” bikes were dropped off for the Optimist Club's “Bikes for Kids” program. The bikes were repaired by Optimists working with teams of youth volunteers.

The bikes were then given to families in need. Some smiling children expressed joy at having their first bike. Others were given a “crash course” in learning to use gears and handbrakes. New Canadians and mothers starting over joyfully observed their children among the swarm of kids test-driving their bikes.

Special thanks to Doug at Rec Cycle for donating replacement parts for the bikes.

A similar program, “Skates for Kids.” will run in November. Keep an eye out for blue donation bins for used skates at Aurora's arenas.
