Aurora’s Highland Gate Golf Course is to be developed for housing, according to landowner ClubLink.

ClubLink and Geranium Corporation released a joint statement Tuesday announcing a “50-50 joint venture” that will result in a “one-of-a-kind residential development” on the golf course which closed at the beginning of November.

“ClubLink has selected Geranium to joint venture with us and manage the redevelopment program,” said Robert Visentin, Chief Financial officer of ClubLink, in the statement. “Jointly, we intend to proceed carefully and cautiously with a high quality development, having regard for our neighbours.”

The joint venture, say the two groups, proposes to “enhance the existing residential community” built around the golf course and the development will be “sensitive and compatible with the surrounding community” and integrated with the “established character” of the neighbourhood.

“There is a strong market demand for high quality homes in Aurora, one of Ontario’s most sought-after communities,” added Cheryl Shindruk, Geranium’s Executive Vice President.

Redevelopment of the golf course will require multiple approvals at the municipal level, including zoning approvals, a review of subdivision plans, and amendments to the Town of Aurora’s existing official plan.

WOW. The corporations are telling the Town of Aurora what is going to happen in the future!!! I guess the fact that the property is zoned recreational means the same thing as being zoned single family residential!!! minor details like current zoning, designation and the all powerful “official plan” which cost tax payers thousands of dollars, they really mean nothing at all.
