Residents surrounding Highland Gate Golf Course are forming a united voice to advocate for the interests of the neighbourhood now that the future of the property is up in the air.

Neighbours have banded together to form the Aurora Highlands Golf Course Community Group on Facebook, to provide “one voice with respect to what is going to occur on the course.”

“Whether or not we can influence at all the probable imminent development, we can at last provide a structured coalition,” says area resident Chris Neal. “I think what happens on the course is the main concern. It is not a very wide course, and certainly all of us, on either side of the course, we have all got a vested interest, certainly in our real estate value, the amount of green space that we have been used to for a good part of the year, and we would certainly like to see as much green space remain in the development as possible.

“We have heard the Town is sitting on [money] from the sale of Aurora Hydro and a number of people have been bouncing in via email that this would be a fantastic investment from the Town in terms of [preserving] a New York-style central park. Whether that is even a possibility, nobody seems to know.”
Neighbours had been contemplating the possibilities for the future of the course over the last few years, he says, as the amount of game play on the course has changed, and Glenway remaining in the back of people’s minds.

“We are just a bunch of people just trying to provide one voice to understand the process,” he says.
