York Regional Police’s Aurora headquarters will be re-named in honour Bill Fisch, outgoing chair of the Regional Municipality of York.

The YRP Headquarters, located on Don Hillock Drive, will be formally re-dedicated “The Bill Fisch Centre for Police Excellence” in a ceremony slated to take place in the new year.

“I am very honoured and humbled by this recognition and feel privileged to have worked with such dedicated leaders on our [Police Services Board] and in our police service,” said Mr. Fisch in a statement. “This is one of the best police services in Canada and I am proud to have been part of this process.”

In a statement, Frank Scarpitti, Chair of the York Regional Police Services Board, said this was a fitting tribute.

“The board is proud to recognize Bill’s work on the Board and as a leader in policing and community safety through this dedication,” he said. “He is truly deserving of this recognition.”

Added Police Chief Eric Jolliffe: “We are pleased and proud to dedicate our building in Bill’s name. Bill spent many years supporting the growth and development of our police service to the point that we are now one of Canada’s policing leaders.”
