Neighbourhood Network’s food drive returns Saturday

October 29, 2014   ·   0 Comments

According to Food Banks Canada’s Hunger Count Survey, in 2013 over 833,000 people across Canada turned to local food banks for support, with almost 376,000 of these people residing in Ontario.
Despite these high numbers, 38% of food banks have been forced to make cutbacks on the amount of food they serve because they do not have enough. Furthermore, 53% of food banks have resorted to buying more food than usual because incoming donations do not meet their needs.
To help combat this issue, Neighbourhood Network will be facilitating its annual Fall Food Drive program on Saturday, November 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers from Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, and Newmarket will be asking food shoppers to fill a bag or make a donation to local food banks.
The following food stores in Aurora have partnered with Neighbourhood Network to help with the drive: Metro, Real Canadian Superstore, Walmart Supercentre.
If you are grocery shopping on November 1, please consider filling a bag to help those relying on our food banks for support.
On behalf of Neighbourhood Network, thank you for helping us to build better communities!
