Election ad hit “rock bottom”, says reader

October 22, 2014   ·   0 Comments

In what appears to be an act of desperation, Mr. Dawe released his newspaper ad last Thursday, which turned his campaign in a very negative direction.
His strategy for re-election initially said he was the best person to lead the Town, and now this.
An effective leader does not act in a negative and destructive manner, they are not dismissive, and they listen and treat people with dignity and respect.
Just the facts?
Apparently Mr. Dawe does not expect that a candidate, a citizen, should have a platform with a vision that is “consistent” with the Town’s strategic plan – this was twisted to be something bad!
The role as a full-time mayor is to represent the Town at events as part-time councillors may not be able to do – again, twisted to be a bad thing.
I don’t think Mr. Dawe is being transparent with citizens, otherwise he would also let you know that it was the insurance company who paid the legal expenses for a lawsuit that was brought on by one Councillor to the Town Council, not the taxpayers! Yet another twist.
Respecting taxpayers’ money? Our town is in Financial trouble: borrowed $25M last month with no clearly defined re-payment plan, new public works building that’s $10M over budget, renovations of the Leisure complex that are $4M over budget? It’s unclear how this is providing Aurora with “Financial Stability.”
Shame, shame, very disappointed in the negative direction and personal attacks. This is not how a Mayor should act, even if it is an election.

W. West
