Monday night will bring the beginning of a new chapter for Aurora – and for the 40 politicians each vying for a piece of the action it will be the beginning of a new chapter for them as well, or the end of a long road – at least for now.

However the vote shakes down, members of the public are invited to come out to Town Hall and travel that road together and cheer on the candidates of their choice.

The Town of Aurora will open its doors as the polls close this Monday, probably just before 8 p.m., for residents to come and watch the results roll in live, in the Council chambers.

“We will have up-to-date results on the big screens in the Council chamber and my department is going to be posting those to our website as well,” says Michael Kemp, Manager of Corporate Communications for the Town of Aurora. “For the first time, we will also be sending out [results] to our social media so they will be on Facebook, Twitter and, by extension, our new Pingstreet App.

“The results come in any time after 8 p.m. and it will be variable when they come in, the distance they have to come in from the 21 different polling stations and voting locations. Any time after that we will have updates as they come in.”

Town Clerk Stephen Huycke, who also serves as Aurora’s Chief Electoral Officer, is working on putting the finishing touches on Monday’s events. He is particularly looking forward to the chance to stop by some of the polling stations across Aurora to see how they are faring, before settling in for the long haul.

“We will have some early results from the advanced polls, what they call special voting locations, and those results will come in very quickly,” says Mr. Huycke. “They will come in when they come in and we want to make sure we’re covering the process thoroughly.”
