In celebration of Culture Days 2014, Aurora Public Library invites you to the culminating event of the “One Book One Aurora” community read project.

For the past six months, our Town has been reading Prisoner of Tehran, the powerful memoir by author and human rights activist, Marina Nemat.

Hundreds of readers have been enthralled by this international best-selling book about a young teen imprisoned and tortured in the infamous Evin prison during the early days of the brutal Islamic revolution. Described as heartbreaking and triumphant, Marina’s story has been embraced throughout the world and published in 28 countries.

Aurorans have been borrowing the book from the Library, reading it online in English, and in Farsi, and sharing the paperback copies that keep appearing almost magically overnight in seven portable libraries throughout the town.

On Saturday, September 27, Aurora Public Library will hold a celebration with theatre, an opportunity for the community to meet Marina, and conversation that we know will engage and transform our guests.

The event takes place in the library living room at 2 p.m. and opens with a short reading by Theatre Aurora.

Then Marina Nemat takes the main stage, talking about her life, her memoir and the work she now does on the international scene. Following Marina’s presentation will be a lively Q&A and the opportunity to sample some home-baked Persian sweets.

Reserved seating is “sold out” but all guests will be accommodated in our spacious and open facility.

Culture Days is a collaborative movement that welcomes your participation.

The Aurora Cultural Roundtable invites you to celebrate your passions at the venues offered by Aurora Public Library, the Aurora Cultural Centre, the Aurora Farmers’ Market and Artisan Fair, the Aurora Historical Society and Theatre Aurora. Passports listing events at these venues will be distributed in The Auroran and will be available at the individual cultural sites leading up to Culture Days.

Have your passport stamped at any of the events and be eligible for one of five prize packages supplied by participating organizations.
