Aurora’s annual end-of-season soccer tournament and festival was held last weekend, marking the 50th year of the Aurora Youth Soccer Club (AYSC).

Games were held across Aurora throughout the weekend, with the majority being played at Sheppard’s Bush Field, the Magna Campus, Optimist Park, and Highland Park.

While the under-5 division to the under-12 division participated in a no-score “festival” style of play, the U13’s to the U18’s competed in round-robin tournaments to decide the best house league teams in the area.

With all the finals occurring on Sunday, the weekend was highlighted by the U18 boys final that went to penalty kicks after playing to a 1 – 1 draw. Team Red would go on to beat Team Royal in the penalties.

AYSC Promotions and Sponsor Coordinator Louise Dyer said she was was pleased with this year’s event, adding that the weather and the players cooperated well throughout the weekend.

“There were no injuries, which is something we’re always happy about. We have almost 5,000 members, so for everything to go off without a hitch is great.”

While the Stinger Cup marks the end of the official house league season, the John Traganitis All Star Tournament will be held September 13 – 14. The tournament welcomes All Star teams from house leagues across Ontario. More information can be found at www.aysc.ca.
