Big Brothers Big Sisters get ready for busy weeks ahead By Brock Weir Big Brothers Big Sisters of York got their engines running on Sunday as part of the annual New Roads Charity Classic Car Show, which was held at the New Roads dealership on Yonge Street in Newmarket. Open to the public, the free event featured a barbeque, music, prizes, kids' activities and fun for the whole family. With classic car enthusiasts paying a $15 registration fee to have their own vehicles in the show, 100 per cent of the proceeds went back to Big Brothers Big Sisters of York. It will be a busy few weeks ahead for Big Brothers Big Sisters of York (BBBSY) as one of 15 community-based charities set to benefit from next month's annual Wild, Wild West Hoedown, hosted by Magna International. BBBSY Executive Director Sarah Dame, seen above with New Roads owner Michael Croxon, says they plan on focusing on physical literacy for the “Littles” and “Bigs” in their program. “Physical literacy is becoming far more in the forefront of our one-on-one mentoring,” Ms. Dame told The Auroran. “We include healthy choices, healthy mind, healthy body, and healthy spirit.” |
