Jennifer Coulthard has graduated with one of the highest marks at Aurora’s Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School.

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) recently released the top marks for students across the Region. Coulthard finished her high school career with a 95.5 average, sharing the top honour with fellow classmate Stephanie Louie who graduated with the same mark.

“I knew I was up there but I didn’t know I was at the top, so it was a surprise,” said Coulthard, who has maintained a high average throughout her high school career. “I’m proud of my achievement. It’s a great school. The teachers are great and I had a good time.”

Although she has a natural affinity for learning, Coulthard said she had to work hard to achieve the high grades.

“I really had to put the time in,” she stated, adding math and history were among her favourite subjects. “I pick up things really fast so school is not that hard for me.”

Coulthard, a second-degree black belt, was able to maintain her stellar grades while working at a karate studio five nights a week.

Coulthard is now looking forward to the next step in her academic journey – post secondary school. This fall, Coulthard will be heading to the University of Western Ontario, majoring in film studies and creative writing.
