YRDSB appoints new Director of Education

J. Philip Parappally has been appointed as the York Region District School Board’s new Director of Education.

Parappally’s appointment will take effect on August 1, following the retirement of incumbent director Ken Thurston. His appointment was made Tuesday night at a meeting of the Board of Trustees.

“I am humbled and honoured by the Board’s appointment,” said Mr. Parappally in a statement. “I am proud of the work the York Region District School Board has done to deliver high quality public education programming. I look forward to working with a strong senior team and the many highly skilled and dedicated employees throughout our system to continue to improve student achievement and well-being.”

Mr. Parappally has served as a Superintendent of Schools within the Board since 2008.
