Absence is about more than just a fee for sports groups

(Re: Where are hockey and soccer, asks reader. November 20, 2013)

Mr. Miller asked in a previous letter why hockey and soccer have chosen not to be part of Sport Aurora when it’s as easy as a $25 registration fee.
I am not part of the executive for either organization but even I can see that joining Sport Aurora requires more than just paying the fee. Joining would mean that they support the direction and operation of Sport Aurora.
Just because Sport Aurora wants to represent all the sport organizations in Aurora, it doesn’t mean that everyone has to join. I am sure the AYSC (Aurora Youth Soccer Club) and AMHA (Aurora Minor Hockey Association) have specific reasons for choosing to withdraw from this group.
There is no bylaw in this town that says all sport organizations must belong to Sport Aurora, nor one that says that Sport Aurora is the only “voice of sport in Aurora”. If the two largest sport organizations in Town feel that this body isn’t the proper group to represent them, they are perfectly entitled to that opinion.
