Newmarket welcomed St. Kitts for festivalNewmarket, unlike Aurora, welcomed the Jazz+ Festival with open arms. Despite the soggy start on Friday, the weather for the balance of the weekend was superb. The three-day event was a huge success with an estimated 9,000 – 10,000 people attending. George and Sher St. Kitts deserve an overwhelming round of applause for organizing such a high energy, professional venue which featured top-level local artists. The Town of Newmarket treated the St. Kitts with respect, encouragement and provided the support they so richly deserved. Plans are underway for a bigger and better 2014 festival. Unfortunately, some small-minded and short-sighted politicians in Aurora just don't, or won't, accept the tremendous loss to our community in both reputation and prestige – and all because of the ill-advised and highly questionable decision to allow perimeter fencing in Town Park. What a shame! We certainly will remember in the next election. P.C. Smith Aurora |
