Another York-Simcoe Express product has taken his next steps to the professional level.
King’s Ian Lemieux officially signed with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit on Saturday, jumping to the major junior level for the first time in his career.
“As an organization, we are pleased that Ian and his family have committed to the Saginaw Spirit,” said Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill.
“He came in and really impressed our staff during training camp. When we returned him to Jr. A, he has done everything we have asked him to do and he has earned this opportunity. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Saginaw uniform.”
Selected by the Spirit in the sixth round of April’s OHL Entry Draft, Lemieux has been honing his craft with the OJHL’s Stouffville Spirit so far this season, where he has posted two assists through the first 21 games.
The six-foot stay-at-home defenseman played last season for the York-Simcoe Express Minor Midget AAA, where in 28 games, he scored three goals and added 12 assists for 15 points.
Wearing number seven, the sixteen-year old made his debut Sunday against the Owen Sound Attack in a 3 – 0 shutout win.
