SENIOR SCAPE

We all have angels guiding us…. They look after us. They heal us, touch, comfort us with invisible warm hands…What will bring their help. Asking. Giving thanks.

Sophy Burnham

No heat wave, no butterflies, no flowers, no shade, no leaves just the cold air singing its song of prelude to winter. I remember my first little tea set and sitting in my bedroom, arranging my dolls and talking incessantly with them whilst sharing a cup of tea.
This November, many of you are not looking forward to the cold and, of course, you can even become a little anxious knowing that snow is going to be upon us. Therefore, this article is reaching out to those readers who can offer a cup of tea, a phone call, a personal visit to those may become a recluse from the cold.
I feel Aurora has many angels who do incredible work from the countless and patient volunteers who give their time so freely at the hospital, schools, daycare centers, and of course our own Aurora Seniors’ Center. A neighbour or a friend needs your healing presence today to assure them that if anything goes wrong, we can be counted on to help.
Angels bestow grace and perform miracles, so do our friends. A thank you card, a funny joke sent in the mail or just some encouraging notes are just some of the ways to reach out to those who may be struggling at this time of year, for whatever reason that may be.
Angels can be found in the faces of strangers. From this day forward, start becoming aware of your encounters with strangers. Look for them and smile and make eye contact. Be kind to strangers and let them be kind to you.
Then there are those angels we already know, the many men and women representing our country and fighting to preserve the peace we have and for others.
Speaking of angels, this November wear a poppy, give generously when you buy one knowing that your support is not just for the present but for our future, for our children and their children too. We stand proud with our Canadian men and women serving abroad and to those who have come back, we thank you with unspeakable gratitude.
Attend a Remembrance Day ceremony and show your support by thanking a veteran today. So many go and when they come back, they are not quite the same, they need time to heal from what they have witnessed and partake for the very first time.
We must demonstrate this respect but also know that younger eyes are watching too, who need us to remind them of the gift of freedom we have and share.
“Thank you” will never be quite enough but our love and prayers are with you and your families as we stand together to celebrate Canada’s angels everywhere!
