James Thomson is trading in his claws for talons.
One of the longest-tenured patrollers of the Aurora blue line, the Tigers defenseman announced his commitment on Sunday to the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks of Canadian USports.
“Very excited to announce my commitment to play CIS hockey at WLU”, said Thomson in a tweet. Thank you to my family, friends, and everyone else involved for your constant support. Can’t wait to get the next chapter started!”
A minor career with the York-Simcoe Express translated to a young junior season for the 6’4” blueliner, who joined the Kanata Lasers for the 2014-15 Central Canada Hockey League season.
He became a staple of the Tigers defense core when his father, ex-NHLer Jim Thomson, bought the Aurora Tigers Junior A organization the following season.
Putting up 27 points in 46 games in his last junior season, he also reached the OJHL finals in 2016-17 as a short-time member of the Trenton Golden Hawks
