The Atom A Aurora Panthers took home some hardware this weekend after a down-to-the-wire finish in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League championship.
The Panthers squeaked into the third-place game thanks to a win and three ties in the round robin at Canlan York in Toronto, meeting on Sunday with the North Halton Twisters, who they defeated 1 – 0 in the opening day of the tournament.
A back-and-forth affair had the two teams knotted at two after three periods, while a four-on-four overtime frame solved nothing.
Aurora managed to score the only goal of the shootout, earning the bronze medal in the process.
The Bantam A Panthers were Aurora’s only other representative in the tournament, falling 4 – 1 to the Brampton Canadettes on Saturday to officially bow out of podium contention.
