The rivalry between the Aurora Tigers and Newmarket Redmen lives on.
Of the six Aurora teams competing in the York-Simcoe Hockey League final series, three are battling their Yonge Street rivals.
The Atom AAs took an early lead on the Redmen in their first-to-six-points series on Monday, earning a 3 – 2 win in game one of the championship.
The Atom AEs open their title campaign this week following six straight wins in the round robin.
The Bantam AA final also features the Tigers and Redmen, with Aurora advancing thanks to three straight convincing wins over the Barrie Colts in the semifinal.
The Markham Waxers are the team to beat for the Novice AA Tigers, who are riding a ten-game unbeaten streak into the championship, including a remarkable 16-goal effort in Monday’s semifinal against the Whitchurch-Stouffville Clippers.
The Bantam As took down the King Rebellion in the semifinal to face the Orillia Terriers in their respective championship, while the most senior remaining Aurora squad, the Minor Midget A Tigers, have an early lead over the Barrie Colts thanks to a 3 – 0 shutout in game one.
