Make it a three-peat for the St. Max girls’ hockey squad.
The Mustangs reeled in their third straight York Region title last week in a best-of-three series win over the Stouffville High School Spartans, once again representing the region at the OFSAA championships.
A 2 – 1 win in game one of the series meant the Mustangs could clinch the title with a win in Game Two, where they did so in dramatic fashion, lighting the lamp seven times in a 7 – 1 final.
Julia Cuccia, Emily Gianias, and Natalie Pantaleo all found the back of the net twice, while Claire DiLosa added a single.
Head coach Kate Treacy said the coaching staff are all “so proud” of their team’s performance.
“They’ve worked so hard all season to clinch another championship,” said Treacy. “These girls work together as a team and have been extremely dedicated all season…we look forward to seeing them in action at OFSAA!”
Aurora reached the championship series on the back of a two-game sweep of Markham District in the semifinal, after finishing the regular season with a perfect 6-0-0 record.
Running March 21-23 in Cambridge, the battle for the best in Ontario will see the Mustangs take on fifteen teams from across fourteen other divisions.
