Do you know someone who you think belongs in the Hall?

The mandate of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) is to celebrate and share the significant and exceptional achievements and contribution to sport within the Town of Aurora.
Celebrating the accomplishments of Aurora's sports heroes is part of the cycle of recognition that leaves a positive impact in our community and in the case of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame, it also culminates in a superb Induction Celebration Dinner (this year on November 8t) and the display of the Honoured Members accomplishments get showcased in the physical Hall, which is housed in the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex.
The categories for nomination are athlete, coach or builder contributor. The eligibility to the ASHOF is similar to other municipal Halls of Fame, in that a nominee must fit one of the following criteria:

1.1 Was born in Aurora; OR
1.2 Maintained residency in Aurora for 5 consecutive years; OR
1.3 Was raised or spent their formative years in Aurora; OR
1.4 Achieved their athletic prominence in Aurora; OR
1.5 Made their contributions to sports in Aurora
Nominated individuals may be deceased pioneers of local sport, exceptional athletes that have retired from competition, coaches who have sacrificed time and effort to develop athletes and give them opportunities to shine and builders or contributors who have toiled behind the scenes and should be brought into the limelight.
Hall Chairman Ron Weese feels equally as strong about the role of nomination: “The success of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is directly related to the quality of our nominees and Honoured Members. There is no more important time for Community involvement than at nomination time. It is everyone's best opportunity to be a part of Aurora Sport History.
ASHOF Executive Director Nancy Black says that following the Induction announcement and/or dinner, many people come up to her and ask about getting someone in the Hall.
“They must be nominated,” is her standard reply.
The deadline for 2018 nominations is noon on February 28. For more information please contact executive.director@aurorashof.ca or go to aurorashof.ca
