Panther pride was in full swing on Sunday at the Stronach Aurora Rec Complex, home of the Aurora Panthers and site of the inaugural Aurora Panther Day.
Both the Midget AA and Intermediate Panthers took to the ice in a day celebrating girl’s hockey, alongside overflowing boxes of donations to the Aurora Food Pantry, prizes, and Panther swag.
The Midget AAs continued their impressive hot streak, with just one regulation loss in their last eight games, shutting out the Vaughan Flames by a score of 6 – 0 to close out the regular season.
A large crowd took in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League action between the Intermediate Panthers and the high-flying Cambridge Rivulettes, who had just six losses through thirty games this season.
Aurora came out strong, with Lauren Dabrowski notching her second of the year early in the first period to take the lead, a lead they held until the final frame.
Aurora goaltender Taylor Beam was a wall until just over six minutes left in the game, when she was finally beaten. Overtime solved nothing, with both teams leaving with a 1 – 1 tie.
Beam made 28 stops on 29 shots.
The game marked the last Panthers home game until February 10, heading out on a five-game road swing beginning Saturday in Toronto to take on the first place Toronto Aeros.
