Storm Riptide 16U Boys had an extremely successful 2016-17 season.
The Riptide boys won all four provincial OVA tournaments in their own age group including the provincial championships. Their only tournament loss was in the Canadian Eastern Nationals where the team took silver losing 17-15 in the third set of an extremely close final.
Against 16U opponents, the team finished with a match record of 31-3 (66-10 in sets) against Canadian opposition. Against 17U opponents, Storm finished the year in the Premier division with tournament results of 4th, 2nd and finally a 5th place finish at the 17U provincial championships.
The team also had success across the border playing in the Boys Winter Invitational in Chicago going 8-1 and finishing fifth to qualify for the US National Championships.
The key to the team’s success was every player willing to do whatever the team needed to succeed.
“If someone was struggling at that moment or someone was injured there was always someone ready to step in and help with whatever was best for the team,” says CoachKevin Therkildsen. “There was no personal agendas, without question the success of the team always came before the individual
“I’ve never been prouder of a group of young athletes, they supported each other no matter what the situation was, it was all about the team.”
