Some Sunday redemption was enough to crown the Aurora King Jays the best in Minor PeeWee York Simcoe baseball at the YSBA championships in Aurora.
The top team in the YSBA at their age level entered the weekend’s tournament with only three losses on the season, quickly disposing of the Stouffville Yankees at Optimist Park Friday night to open the knockout round.
Saturday’s action brought a doubleheader with the Richmond Hill Phoenix, a series the Jays split after winning game one by a score of 3 – 1 before falling 9 – 6 in Game Two.
After defeating the Vaughan Vikings 9 – 1 on Sunday, the Jays found themselves facing the Phoenix once again in the afternoon’s final, which they took 5 – 2 to claim the YSBA title.
With the win, Aurora King moves on to the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) playoffs in Barrie over Labour Day weekend.
Congratulations to head coach Jordan Keon, assistant coaches Greg Davison, David Walker, and Ryan Windle, and players Nicholas Burdo, Luke Davison, Ryley Emery, Fionn Keon, Nathan Lambert, William McKenzie, Owen Norris, Tyler Pridham, Finn Walker, and Nathan Windle.
