Meghan Reynolds and Courtney Chocol put on quite the show for the Aurora FC in a whopping 7 – 0 win Sunday over the Woodbridge Strikers.
Coming off a bye week after a pair of back-to-back wins, Chocol opened the scoring with only a few minutes remaining in the first half before adding her second just two minutes later.
Reynolds gave Aurora a three-goal lead ten minutes into the second half, and added two more to complete the hat trick before the final whistle.
Cassandra Armstrong and Ellie Hayes added singles to close out the scoring.
“I think it was a very good experience for the ladies today, just because we don’t usually score this many goals in a game,” said assistant coach Peter Bulford.
“We had some good passing, some decent finishing, and it was nice to have the victory.”
Sarah Charnock was between the pipes to earn the clean sheet for Aurora.
With three straight wins, and four in their last five games, the Aurora women have climbed the League 1 table into fifth place, holding onto a winning record for the first time this season at 7-6-0.
They visit the league-leading North Mississauga FC (9-4-1) for a rare Wednesday game before heading to London on Saturday to take on FC London (8-2-2).
The Aurora FC men came within minutes of a three-point day as well on their home turf at St. Maximilian Kolbe on Saturday, but two late goals from the Oakville Blue Devils sealed their fate.
Joren Ramsay-Marshall opened the scoring early in the second half, while the teams traded a pair within five minutes of each other for Aurora to take a 2 – 1 lead into the 85th minute.
Oakville’s Connor McNamara managed to score to tie the game, before Anthony Novak notched a goal in the final ten minutes to earn a 3 – 2 win.
Aurora head coach Derek O’Keeffe blamed the loss on “individual errors.”
“We knew that if we were in the lead they would send (McNamara) forward, that was an expectation at half-time, and play long balls, which they did in the end. Again it was individual errors and lapses in concentration.
“We knew they were a big, strong, team who like to play direct, which works – it’s a strategy, a long ball strategy.”
They return to the field on Saturday to face off against OSU Force (6-7-1) in an afternoon road game.
